Duncan talks about studying Therapeutic Counselling

Hi everyone, my name is Duncan. I study an MSC in Therapeutic Counselling with the University of Greenwich. 

The three words that I would use to describe my course are fulfilling, demanding and supportive.

We start every week with something called an experiential group, followed by a case discussion group and a theory lesson and then in the evenings we do a live skill session every week. 

At the moment, I'm learning a lot about transference and counter-transference which basically involves us bringing our past experiences into our new therapeutic relationship. So it's really interesting to see how I as a therapist can influence the dynamic within the therapy room, just as much as the client can and I think that's been really important for my professional development.
